Solidago ontarioensis is often treated as a subspecies of Sticky Goldenrod, either as Solidago simplex var. ontarioensis or Solidago simplex ssp. randii. It is a rare species restricted to rocky shorelines of Lakes Huron and Superior in Ontario (Canada) and Michigan (USA); most of the global distribution is in Ontario. This species grows on calcareous and basaltic shorelines, at ca. 200 m asl. It flowers in July and August.
